How much can I earn and still get zorgtoeslag?

Nearly everyone paying for Dutch health insurance eventually checks whether zorgtoeslag (the healthcare allowance) applies to them, and the income ceiling is only half the test. Savings and investments are assessed separately on a fixed date, and crossing either limit removes the entitlement for the whole year rather than trimming it.

For 2026, the income cutoff for zorgtoeslag (healthcare allowance) is €40,857 a year if you're single, or a combined €51,142 if you have a toeslagpartner — above that, the entitlement disappears completely rather than tapering to some tiny amount. Below the ceiling it slides: at the lowest incomes you get the maximum, which for 2026 is €129 a month (about €1,548 a year) for a single person, or a combined €246 a month (€2,952 a year) for a household with a partner, shrinking gradually as income rises toward the cutoff. Assets count too, separately from income — you and your partner combined can't hold more than €146,011 (single) or €184,633 (with a toeslagpartner) in savings and investments on 1 January of the benefit year, or you're disqualified for the whole year even if your income would otherwise qualify. Zorgtoeslag is applied for and calculated through Mijn Toeslagen, and because it runs on an estimate you supply, it's worth updating your expected income there as soon as it changes rather than waiting for the annual reconciliation to catch it.
